The abortion pill-also called a medical abortion or non-surgical abortion-is a safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy, typically up to a certain number of weeks as determined by your provider.

A medical abortion involves taking a series of prescription medication under the guidance of a clinician.  These medications work together to:

  • Stop the pregnancy from continuing by blocking the hormones needed to sustain it.
  • Cause the uterus to contract and empty similar to a heavy menstrual period.

How effective is the abortion pill?

When prescribed and supervised by a qualified healthcare professional, the abortion pill regimen is over 95% effective for individuals within the recommended gestationage range. Medical studies and years of real-world use have demonstrated that this option is both safe and reliable foe ending an early pregnancy.

Medical Abortion vs. Surgical Abortion

Medical Abortion (Abortion pill)

  • Uses medication to end the and expel the pregnancy.
  • Often complete at home after an in-clinic visit and evaluation
  • May feel similar to a heavy period with cramping and bleeding.
  • can be a more private and flexible option for many patients

Surgical Abortion (in-clinic procedure)

  • Uses gentle suction to remove the pregnancy in a clinic setting.
  • Typically very quick often completed in just a few minutes
  • performed under the supervision of highly trained medical team
  • May be recommended at later gestational ages or based on individual health needs.

Surgical procedure at our clinic.

This is when instruments will be used to remove the fetus.

If both procedures are done by a qualified doctor with proper medical guidance, there is no way it will affect your fertility.

How Safe is procedure Done

On your first visit to our clinic, counseling will be provided and this is optional.

The doctor will  perform a pregnancy test to confirm the weeks and also explain to you in detailed how the safe abortion procedure will done and how to take care of yourself after the procedure.

What are the side effects of the procedure

  • bleeding and cramping.

Most people may expect rather significant bleeding with this method, and it’s common to pass some large clots. Bleeding can linger for a few days or weeks and range in intensity from a slight flow or spotting to more intense bleeding, similar to a period. However, if you do not begin bleeding within 24 hours or if you are soaking through two or more pads per hour for two hours in a row, please get in touch with AWC immediately.

  • Cramps are frequent with this type of removing and can be much worse than a period. Painkillers will be prescribed by us.
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and weakness. On rare occasions, these symptoms could indicate a negative reaction to the abortion termination. Call our clinic immediately if, more than 24 hours after taking safe abortion, you have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or weakness, along with or without fever or stomach pain. It may be normal to have a temperature of 101° F or higher after started the process. Your temperature should subside around an hour after the bleeding starts. Drink plenty of liquids. If your temperature does not go down within three hours, give the clinic a call. If, after day 4, you get a temperature over 100.4° F, please call our office immediately.
  • A follow-up appointment. Seven to ten days after your first visit, AWC will perform a second vaginal ultrasound. About one percent of women who utilize the procedure will not terminate their pregnancies, and two to three percent will still have pregnancy tissue in their uterus at the time of their follow-up visit. Following the completion of the procedure, you will discuss your options and future care. If you are still pregnant, you will most likely need surgery to complete the abortion

Womb Cleaning after a safe procedure

The womb is the center of a woman’s power, creativity and life force. Not only does the womb create babies, it also energetically holds the space of the life force. Therefore after every abortion procedure we shall provide you with pain other that will prevent you from getting any infections during the healing process.

You may also need to have a pap smear to make sure that the cervix (mouth of the womb) is normal.

Should you feel continuous pains that do not stop or bleeding that is heavily for almost a week after procedure, that is a possible sign of small tissue that might have remained inside the womb during the procedure.

We shall perform some test and if we confirm that there is a sign of infection , the clinic will perform a small procedure to gently scoop or remove any remaining tissue inside the womb.

At home procedure

With any procedure, avoid putting anything into your vagina (no tampons, no sexual intercourse, and no douching) for five days after the procedure, as the cervix is open and there is a greater chance of an infection during this time.

Bleeding ranges from none at all to a light or moderate flow, which may stop and then start again. Some signs of pregnancy, such as nausea, usually get better in a day or two, while others, including breast tenderness, may take a week or two.

You may also be advised to rest and to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. Self-care is important, but work, school and family circumstances may make some recommendations unrealistic.

In addition, no studies have shown that these activities actually increase the risk of complications after abortion. The best guide is to listen to your body and use common sense.

Dealing With Emotions

Emotionally, most women report feeling relief after an abortion, but it is also perfectly normal to have mixed or even negative feelings. The decision to terminate a pregnancy can be sad or stressful. It may be made more upsetting by the stigma against abortion fueled by those who are opposed to rights.
